Owning A Business Does Not Mean Doing Every Job In It
Here is a belief that quietly wrecks a lot of small business owners. The idea that because you started the business, you have to personally do every single task inside it.
You do not.
Owning a business and doing every job in that business are two completely different things. One is leadership. The other is a fast track to exhaustion.
Think about what actually needs your hands on it versus what needs the outcome delivered. Does your invoicing need to be done by you specifically, or does it just need to be done accurately and on time. Does your social media need your personal touch on every single post, or does it need to be consistent, on brand, and out the door.
Most owners hold onto tasks for one of three reasons. They think it will be faster to just do it themselves. They do not trust anyone else to do it properly. Or they have never actually stopped to ask whether it needs to be them at all.
The businesses that grow well are usually run by owners who got comfortable letting go early. Not letting go of the vision or the standards, but letting go of the belief that their fingerprints need to be on every single task.
Your job as the owner is to build something that works, not to personally be the thing that makes it work every single day. Those are very different jobs, and only one of them is sustainable.
